Below
is an example of a contract for a Slavess Bengal purchased as a pet
only. Contracts for breeding cats vary slightly but can be viewed on
request.
Contractual agreement for the purchase of a
pedigree Bengal cat on the non-active register, not for breeding.
I/we
understand that this agreement is a condition of the sale of the cat,
and all points must be agreed to & signed before the purchase
should take place.
This agreement is between the breeder:- (name & address)
and the purchaser:- (name & address)
In relation to:- (cat's registered name) D.O.B / Sex / Microchip number
1. I/we agree to care for the cat at all times in a proper &
suitable manner in accordance to a cat of this breeding & quality.
This includes providing any veterinary care or medication when needed,
providing an indoor, warm & comfortable home, supplying a suitable
diet & keeping up to date with worming & vaccinations. Most of
all providing love & companionship for the life of the cat.
2. If for any unforeseen reason & at any time during this cat's
life I/we are no longer able to care for the cat in my/our own personal
possession, I/we agree to work with the breeder to find a new suitable
home. The cat must not be rehomed by the owner without the breeder's
consent in writing. In a rehoming situation there will be no refund.
The cat should be considered as having no resale value & must not
be sold on to a third party under any circumstances. In paying for this
cat, I/we are agreeing to undertake the responsibility & commitment
of ownership for the entire life of the cat unless there are unforeseen
unpreventable circumstances in which case I/we will work alongside the
breeder to rehome.
3. I/we agree to always keep the breeder informed of the cat's
whereabouts for the entire life of the cat & will notify the
breeder of any change of address or contact details throughout that
time. I/we will also ensure to notify the microchip company of any
change of details unless the main contact is listed as the breeder.
4. I/we agree that the cat is sold as non-active on the GCCF breeding
register and therefore must not be bred from under any circumstances.
The transfer of ownership certificate shall be forwarded to the new
owner upon receipt of written confirmation from a veterinary practise,
that the cat has been successfully neutered. This must take place
before the cat reaches 7 months of age & preferably by 6 months.
Therefore the cat will remain registered in the name of the breeder
until the neutering has taken place.
5. The breeder recommends that the cat will not be allowed to have free
access to the outdoors unless in a suitable & safe enclosure, or
accompanied on a lead & harness/walking jacket. If you choose to
allow the cat to have free access to the outdoors, all guarantees
against illness will be void.
6. I/we agree that if there are any concerns of any nature throughout
the life of the cat, I/we will contact the breeder for any advice or
assistance & will always keep the breeder informed of any
circumstances regarding the cat. This includes any possible inherited
health issues so that the breeder can keep records for the benefit of
the breeding programme & related cats.
7. I/we will take the cat for a health check with my/our vet within one
week of purchase. If any problem is discovered within the first week a
full refund or replacement will be offered & the cat is to be
returned to the breeder, as long as the problem is confirmed by the vet
to have been present at the time of the cat leaving the breeder's
cattery.
8. If the cat loses it's life as a result of a hereditary illness, a
replacement will be offered. The reason for death must be confirmed to
be a result of breeding inheritence in writing by a qualified
veterinarian. This may in some circumstances require a post mortem
examination which will only be reimbursed by the breeder if inheritence
is confirmed in the cause of death. The breeder cannot accept
responsibility of any death by illness which is not confirmed to be
hereditary or was not present when the cat left the cattery, or if the
cat is allowed to have free access to the outdoors. In the case of
hereditary illness, the breeder will investigate any related cats &
retire them from the breeding programme where necessary.
**PLEASE NOTE ANY REFUND AFTER THE FIRST WEEK OF OWNERSHIP WILL BE AT
THE BREEDER'S DISCRETION & MAY NOT BE AVAILABE IMMEDIATELY**
Please understand that profits from sales of kittens at a small hobby
cattery get absorbed straight back into the breeding programme &
therefore may not be available to refund until future litters are ready
for rehoming & any existing costs have been met. Rest assured that
any refund agreed, will be paid at the earliest possibility and your
patience is greatly appreciated. Any replacement cat offered will be
made available from the next possilble litter, after honouring
reservations.
**IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED TO KEEP INSURANCE POLICIES IN PLACE AT ALL TIMES**
